Local Festival Celebrates Food and Farms
Free gardening workshops and plant sales help North Shore
residents to ensure a strong start this growing season

WHAT: The Food Project, a youth development and local agriculture
program, celebrates the start of another growing season at their Munroe Street Farm in Downtown Lynn. Area youth will lead the festivities with how-to workshops and sales of vegetable plants.

WHO: The Food Project youth and staff will host local residents,
neighbors, and community members.

Since 1991, The Food Project (TFP) has built a national model of engaging young people in personal and social change through sustainable agriculture. Their mission is to grow a thoughtful and productive community of youth and adults from diverse backgrounds who work together to build a sustainable food system. TFP produces healthy food for residents of the city and suburbs and provides youth leadership opportunities. Most importantly, TFP strives to inspire and support others to create change in their own communities.

WHEN: Saturday May 18, 2013; 10am to 2pm

Through a four-year gift from Partners HealthCare, Lynn has become a Mass in Motion community. Mass in Motion, an initiative of the Mass Department of Public Health, is focused on promoting healthy eating and active living by changing the environment in which we live work and play.

Come to The Food Project's farms in Lynn and Beverly to help us grow food for hunger relief organizations, farmers' markets, and farm shares. Volunteers help with preparing beds, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and washing vegetables. No experience needed! Come out and help us grow vegetables for hunger relief in your community!

Who: Adults and teens from Greater Boston and the North Shore
Where: 1 Collins Street Terrace, Lynn, MA; 572 Essex Street, Beverly, MA

When: Monday and Saturday from 9:30-12:30pm and Thursday from 8-10am.

The market runs through November 3rd.

Community-Supported Agriculture Farm Shares in Lynn

The Food Project currently has Community-Supported Agriculture farm shares available for the 2012 farm season! CSA farm shares are an easy and fun way to purchase fresh, local, and sustainably grown vegetables for your family. Pick up your share every week at TFP’s farm in Lynn (Munroe Street). Each CSA farm share contains enough vegetables to feed a family of four mixed-diet individuals or 2-3 vegetarian adults. The CSA program runs from mid-June through the end of October and offers a wide variety of produce.

MLK Day of Service

Join us in celebrating MLK Day of Service in Lynn, MA! We are collecting hat, scarves, gloves, school supplies and non-perishable food items for the city of Lynn--to be given to Lynn public schools and My Brother's Table. Volunteers are needed on Monday, January 16th from 12pm to 6pm to collect donations at businesses, transport donations from businesses to Girls Inc., and sort donations at Girls Inc. On Monday, January 16th all volunteers must sign in at Girls Inc. 15 minutes prior to their shift, where they will be given their assignments. Additionally, all voluneers are invited to join us for an "After-Party" at Girls Inc. to celebrate our hard work through food, music, and great peolpe!

Pre-registration is REQUIRED by Monday, January 9th.
