As Unitarian Universalists we value freedom of belief and respect for truthfulness. Our religious sources are many and are drawn from the broad diversity of human experience. Sunday worship services, held year round, focus on fostering our spiritual growth. With this goal in mind, we explore our Unitarian Universalist heritage, our shared sense of community, response to local and world events, and the ethical challenges of everyday living. Serving a congregation rich in theological diversity, our worship service is a place to illuminate these and other issues with the light of different spiritual and intellectual perspectives.

As part of worship we have readings from the Christian and Hebrew Scriptures, the Qur’an, Buddhist and other sacred traditions, and thoughtful and perceptive writings from throughout the ages. Music from the choir, guest soloists and our own voices rising in song enlivens our worship. The children are with us at the beginning of the service before leaving for their classes. Babes in arms are always welcome or can receive loving care in our Crib Room.

Most services are conducted by our Parish Minister, Rev. Vann Knight. About once a month, and during the summer, services are conducted by congregation members and guest ministers.

Celebrate the start of the Holiday Season at the 4th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Mayor Edward “Chip” Clancy hosts the evening as we light up Central Square. Grab a hot cider and shop the Fabulous Holiday Show and Sale at LynnArts. Kids can make a seasonal decoration or ornament at Raw Art Works. Enjoy a variety of family activities including an ice sculpture demonstration, face-painting, a fire juggler and balloon twister. Happy Holidays from your neighbors in Central Square! Christmas at Gordon

Families, friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate Christmas at Gordon. Gordon college invites families across the North Shore to take part in the events offered during the second annual Christmas at Gordon celebration from December 2nd through December 6th. Christmas at Gordon is an oppurtunity for the surrounding North Shore communities to celebrate the Christmas seaso with students, faculty and alumni of the college as well as neighbors and friends in the community.

The program kicks off on Tuesday, December 2, with a Campus Tree Lighting ceremony in front of the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel. There will be complimentary hot chocolate and cider for families, stories of the Advent season, and a special outdoor carol performance by the Jabulani Choir. Following the ceremony the student government association will host a free holiday movie in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel for local youth groups, students and friends in the community.

The City of Lynn welcomes you and your family to participate in the Veteran's Day activities, happening on Tuesday, November 11th at 11 AM, located at Lynn City Hall. Light refreshments will be served, with entertainment by the Lynn Public Schools Band and Lynn's Own Brian Landry.

Family Activities with Family and Children's Services of Greater Lynn, Inc

Family and Children's Services of Greater Lynn, Inc. is partnering with the Lynn Public library to host an evening of story telling for children. The entire family is welcome to participate in this exciting evening of learning and fun. Pre-registration is required.

June 13 Relay for Life at Red Rock Park

This was the scene at Red Rock Park on June 13 as day turned into night. Every summer, the city hosts the Relay for Life to raise money and awareness to fight cancer. It's called a relay because teams of people walk around the circumference of Red Rock Park continuously from early evening to 6 in the morning. When someone gets tired, a team member takes their place. Read more about it here.

All night, teams camped out in Red Rock Park in tents or under the open sky, barbecuing, sleeping, eating, face painting and listening to music. I went for a few hours with Karin (my wife) to bring a donation to a friend of hers who was participating. We listened to a band play 70's music, marched around Red Rock Park with friends and took lots of pictures.

As a cancer survivor, I was excited to see the many tents and canopies dotting the park under which people celebrated. Many city departments such as the Police and Lynn Housing were present.

The many lights lining the pathway you see in the picture above are called "Illuminaria" and consist of small white paper bags filled sand and a lighted candle. People buy them for $5 each and decorate them with pictures, words and drawings in memory of loved ones who died of cancer. I bought one for my Aunt Linda who passed away over a year ago.

On July 23, 2007, Lynn Community Connection had a breakfast meeting regarding Child Abuse at Lynn Housing Authority. During Deputy Kevin Coppinger's speech of Lynn Police Dept., he mentioned the difference between living in a house v. home. He said," A house has four walls with a roof over your head. It's a place you live and get a meal once in awhile. Whereas, in a house, there's a parent or parents who cares for you, watches over you, provides you with love, shelter, and food. Without these basic values in a home, our youths are turning to gangs to get these values." read more »
