HALT Conference this Saturday!
The 12th Annual (HALT) Harmony Among Lynn Teens Conference is this Saturday April 10th, 2010 from 4:30-11:00 p.m. at Lynn Tech. The youth/adult planning committee has been very busy putting together what we think will be another great HALT Conference! This annual conference gives teens resources to live healthy lives while demonstrating the positive contributions youth are making in the city. Last year over 350 Lynn teens came out for this event to find out how they could make a difference. This year's conference will have an anti-violence focus (specific theme to be decided this week). The evening will include:
• Agency Resource Tables
• Summer Job Information
• Best Pizza in Lynn? Teens eat & vote! (Over 15 Lynn Restaurants donate their pizzas for this)
• Youth Led Workshops
• Inspirational Speakers
• followed by a Dance & free give aways!!!!
For more information about the HALT conference contact: Tosha Duester, Girls Inc of Lynn 781-592-9744 ext. 210 or Cathy Rowe, Lynn Housing Authority 781-598-4291

Are you interested in community service? Do you want to take a leadership role in your community?
The SCI Lynn Citywide Youth Council is looking for new members. If you are a Middle School or High School student and live in Lynn, please consider joining the Citywide Youth Council. Applications are available below to download as attachments, or at the SCI Lynn office, located at 52 Andrew Street, Straight Ahead Ministries, Family and Children’s Services, Girls Incorporated of Lynn, and the Greater Lynn YMCA. This is the first year of the SCI Lynn Citywide Youth Council, and we seek to engage a diverse group from ages 12 to 18 who share a desire to make a difference in their community.
The Youth Council will meet every other week, on a weekday, after school, but the exact day and time will be determined by the popular vote of the Youth Council. Meetings usually last one hour, and light refreshments will be provided. From November to June, the Youth Council will lead community service projects and civic engagement projects, including the distribution and management of grants to other youth initiated service projects such as park clean ups and resource fairs . The SCI Lynn Citywide Youth Council also offers an outstanding opportunity to enhance leadership through the use of SCI's Civic Skills Checklist; this provides a concrete way to build practical skills such as public speaking and event planning.
