This is the second year of the SCI Lynn CITYWIDE Youth Council, and we seek to engage a diverse group from ages 12 to 18 who share a desire to make a difference in their community through service learning and community outreach. The LCWYC will meet every week, on a Monday or Wednesday, after school at the Boys & Girls Club, Lynn, but the exact day and time will be determined by the popular vote of the Youth Council. Meetings usually last one hour, and light refreshments will be provided. From November to June, the LCWYC will lead community service projects and civic engagement projects, including the distribution and management of grants to other youth initiated service projects such as park clean ups, resource fairs, youth dances, and the HALT Conference. The SCI Lynn CITYWIDE Youth Council also offers an outstanding opportunity to enhance leadership through the use of SCI's Civic Skills Checklist; this provides a concrete way to build practical skills such as public speaking, media outreach, and event planning. If you are a Middle School or High School student and live in Lynn and surrounding areas, please consider joining the Lynn CITYWIDE Youth Council at the Boys & Girls Club in Lynn, MA on November 9th, 2009 from 5:00pm-6:00pm.

If you have any questions please contact the SCI Lynn AmeriCorps Youth Leadership Coordinator, GayLynne Samsonoff at 781-599-1269.

This program is coordinated by SCI Lynn and sponsored by the Cabot Family Charitable Trust, Foley Hoag Foundation, and the Mass. Service Alliance.

Drug Paraphernalia Project Performance

Part of the Solution (POS) has been involved with a project to show the Lynn community what drug paraphernalia is being sold in their stores.  Along with another Girls Inc. program, POS put together a presentation that they performed for the Lynn Board of Health in October.  They did such a great job that they were asked to give another performance November 10th, 6:30 PM at Lynn City Hall.  Please come out and support Part of the Solution.
