On January 20th, 2014 the MLK Day of Service will be an opportunity for residents of the Lynn community and surrounding areas to take part in volunteering their time and energy in making this community the best it can be. The MediClerk program is designed to provide the skills necessary to succeed in an administrative position in the healthcare field. Courses offered during each 13-week session include:

·      Medical Terminology and Medical Keyboarding

·      Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Explorer

·      Business Communications and Medical Office Procedures

·      Professional Success and Job Search Skills

·      Six job-shadows and a two-week internship


Classes take place Monday-Friday, 8:45am-3:00pm at the Salem Campus of North Shore Medical Center.

MediClerk participants must be North Shore residents who:

·      Have attended a MediClerk Information Meeting

·      Have a high school diploma or GED

·      Are available for the duration of the entire 13-week session

·      Have computer and typing experience (20 words per minute preferred)

·      Are able to pass a Criminal Offender Record Investigation (CORI)

Tuition assistance is available on a sliding scale

MediClerk is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2014 session.

Food for Fines returns to Lynn Public Library

Lynn Public Library is currently holding a Food for Fines program. Up until December 12th the library will let you return overdue materials and pay off your fines with canned or non-perishable goods. 1 item is worth $1 (not for materials, for fines only). All goods will be donated to My Brother’s Table.

Delicious, delectable, divine…what’s not to love about sparkling wine? But there’s a world of bubbly out there beyond Champagne! Many countries produce sparkling wines of outstanding quality. You are invited to an evening of sipping and learning about these various styles. Maia Gosselin, the owner of Sip Wine Education and an expert in all things bubbly, will lead everyone as they sip and sample a range of 6 sparklers Cava to Cremant to Champagne! Light appetizers will be served. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.

Free e-Books and audiobooks at! If you like listening to audiobooks or reading eBooks, take a look at this new library service! You can browse through a collection of media including fiction and nonfiction for adults, teens and children. Check them out with your library card, and download them for one, two, or three weeks. You can listen to the audiobooks on your PC, or transfer them to an MP3 player; some titles can also be burned to a CD. Adobe EPUB eBooks can be downloaded to Amazon Kindle Fire, Sony e-Readers, Nooks, and other compatible devices.
