SCI is recruiting for next year!
Social Capital Inc. is recruiting AmeriCorps positions for the 2008/09 year. These members will coordinate civic engagement initiatives in the areas of Engaging Youth, Building Bridges, Connecting Citizens, and Developing Leaders. Members will serve ten months, from September 2008 to June 2009, and receive a modest living allowance during their service and an educational award. We Are Looking for Translators
SCI Lynn is looking for translators to volunteer editing a Multilingual Publication for residents of Lynn. This publication will include listings of basic services and resources available to the Lynn community at large. The goal of this publication is to increase accessibility to resources, increase the usage of those services, and promote civic engagement. SCI Lynn hopes to have the publication finished by fall 2008 in the five following languages Haitian Creole, Khmer, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. Latinamerican Heritage Festival
There are few moments that arise in Lynn where different cultures from Bolivia, Peru,Brazil Colombia, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela come together to celebrate the unique folklore that links them together. Latin American countries posses a varied heritage founded in the mix of people with different ethnic backgrounds…..Inca, Aztec, Europe, Africa and others. This rich folklore will be explored and demonstrated with dances, songs, customs and presentations in this magnificent event. Compare Supermarkets, SPC Noticias and SCI Lynn are proud to present this historical event in the newly renovated Lynn Auditorium. Come and enjoy this wonderful night with all of us. Volunteers Needed for Minuteman Senior Services
Health Benefits University and Minuteman Senior Services is providing a training for volunteers interested in senior care.
The agencies will be conducted the trainings on either of the following dates, September 22 or September 29. Come learn some new skills, earn your continuing education credits (CEUs), and get re-energized about the great work that you do with elders and their caregivers. Pre-registration for the following sessions is required by September 15, 2008. Please beware that seating is limited. Participants completing this program will be able to understand: Medicare A, B, C, and D, Community MassHealth Programs and eligibility criterion, Long Term Care Medicaid and the application process,Long Term Care Insurance, and this program offers 4 CEUs for Social Workers. Home Makeover Project
Do you have a home in need of a fresh look? Have you fallen on hard times and are unable to make the needed cosmetic changes to your home? The International Furniture and Design Association (IFDA) is taking applications for families in need of assistance to take part in a "Home Makeover" contest. This contest is open to members from any community in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. One lucky winner will have a crew of approximately 25 professionals providing cosmetic improvements to their home over the course of two days (a Saturday & Sunday) in the month of October. The application deadline is September 11, 2008. The winning home will be picked and notified by a committee shortly thereafter.

Volunteer Poll Workers Needed
MassVOTE is recruiting volunteers to be poll workers.On Election Day, several thousand neighbors across our state will take the day to make sure every voter is welcomed at the polls and that our elections are free and fair. It is hard work, but it is also a great way to meet your neighbors, and most communities offer a small stipend for your service. Please join MassVOTE on September 17, 2008 for Decision 08'.
