Tour Pine Grove Cemetery

As part of this year's Trails & Sails Weekend, celebrating the history of Essex County,Pine Grove Cemetery is offering a free guided tour this Sunday, September 28th!

Established in 1849, Pine Grove Cemetery is a quintessential picturesque garden style cemetery recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. Pine Grove boasts strong historical associations, distinctive landscapes and plantings, buildings, and thousands of monuments and other funerary art. The cemetery, its building, and monuments were designed by a who's who list of 19th century building and landscape architects including H.A. S. Dearborn, Robert Morris Copeland and Ernet W. Bowditch. Must sees are the Rhodes Memorial Chapel designed by Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, Copeland's Sunken Gardens, the WPA-build fieldstone wall adorning the 152-acre perimeter and much more.

Visitors on the 28th may attend the guided tour beginning at 1:15 p.m. or tour independently 1-4 p.m. Free to the public.
